Manhattan GMAT Student Testimonials
We at Manhattan GMAT pride ourselves on student feedback and open ourselves to criticism - both positive and negative. As a result, we encourage all prospective students research other GMAT Prep programs before settling on one. A prep course is an investment in the future, and it would be unwise not to collect information about other companies.
To ease this process, we have collected comments and reviews from other websites. Please use this page as a starting point for your research.

I'd read on a GMAT blog that the Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide was the most helpful book out there for S.C. problems, and I can easily see why it has gotten that reputation! Very clear and analytical, broke the problems down in a way that I haven't seen elsewhere (and I own some of the big books), I found it very useful."
The bible for GMAT sentence correction just got bigger, better and more streamlined!
This is definitely a must have for anyone who wants to do well on their GMAT verbal. The book is literally twice as big as the first edition and includes a lot of nuances and mini rules/exceptions not covered in the previous editions.
As usual, the book also comes with access to the 6 MGMAT CAT exams as well."
I have tried numerous other materials and NONE come close to how well this book is organized. The exercises are skill building and the tips were 'spot on' with the real test. I increased my score 100 in month with this book.
I took an expensive prep course with another company and still fell short of needing better material to prepare for the GMAT. My tutor recommended this to me and it is bar none the holy grail for conquering sentence correction on the GMAT.
Reading Comprehension is one of the most difficult areas to improve in a short time for the GMAT. If you are not getting good scores in this section and if you've not been a life long reader, then it is not easy to improve your score - it will take hard work and a lot of practice, and probably the Manhattan GMAT RC guide.
This book is definitely one of the best out there for this section. The book offers some radically new tricks and tips to better attack this section (I ended up using a few of them and they were very helpful) and it also has a bunch of practice passages apart from pointers to practice passages from the Official Guide.
Here's what I have to say about the entire series - buy them all, it will cost you less than 150 dollars and believe me, it will be money well spent (I scored 760 on my GMAT last month)."
The Manhattan GMAT quantitative guides are great for reviewing or just flat out learning the quant concepts tested on the GMAT. Don't let the thinness of the books fool you; they efficiently pack in a lot of material and do not pad the books with lots of practice questions created by them. It's far better to work off of Official Guide questions, and each Manhattan GMAT guide has a handy list of all OG questions subdivided into Problem Solving & Data Sufficiency, and further subdivided according to the concept tested. There is an additional problem set of the most challenging OG questions spanning all concepts. I am decent, but rusty at math, and after using a couple of the Manhattan GMAT quant guides, was able to improve my quant score from high 40s on practice tests to 51 on the real thing! I can't recommend these books enough."
I have bought all the MGMAT strategy guides and plan to write a review as I finish them. I have completed Number properties guide and I have found it very useful. Before starting with MGMAT I had completed Priceton Review Cracking the GMAT and Kaplan Comprehensive GMAT. I would say that the above 2 books use concepts straight out of college textbooks. However MGMAT explains these concepts as tested by GMAT. It gives more concepts per topic instead of cramming up everything under 1 book. Every page is worth reading especially about prime, consecutive numbers and average."

Here are some key findings from my research and study experience:
1. Manhattan GMAT has instructors of the highest caliber. They are not only as smart as you can find anywhere, but they are also extremely supportive, approachable and excellent at teaching (not to mention great personalities). They will equip you with multiple ways of solving a problem and explain things until you totally "get it."
2. With the exception of the score you get on GMATPrep exams (you can download from http://mba.com), the score you get on Manhattan GMAT practice exams correlates very strongly to your actual GMAT test. However, you need to keep in mind that Quantitative problems from Manhattan GMAT tend to involve many steps and are therefore more computationally intensively and time-consuming. I've heard MGMAT is working on addressing this problem but even so these harder problems will train you to be even better at the actual GMAT exam.
3. The study material from Manhattan GMAT is simply the best. The materials from other prep shops such as Kaplan don't even compare (I've flipped through Kaplan's in Barnes & Noble). All of the Manhattan GMAT study material are excellent but you must paid the most attention to their sentence correction and math guides. I adopted every one of their techniques in these areas. MGMAT's materials on critical reasoning and reading comprehension are also best in the industry. But in these two areas you need to practice a lot more and use their material as a basis to hone in on your own test taking strategies. For example, their recommendation of drawing a T-diagram was unnecessary (perhaps even damaging) for me personally on doing critical reasoning problems."
This is the best bang for the buck when it comes to GMAT classes, hands down.
Each 3 hour class has a specific subject purpose and if you follow the provided excel study guide, you should have no problems thoroughly understanding the GMAT. MGMAT also provides 6 CATs, included 30 minute tutoring each week, and a discussion forum. If that's not enough, private tutoring available.
The books are tailored to a specific GMAT study area, including the holy grail of Sentence Correction that continually tops everyones list. The instructors are outstanding and required to score 99% percentile (760). Compare that to Kaplan's 690, and you get the picture. I highly recommend Rey Fernandez.
And to think, you can put your newly found business skills to good use by selling your used books after you ace the GMAT on craigslist or ebay..."
Beat the GMAT
I just got my results. 700 with a 44 V 42 Q. I took the test last month and I scored 570 with a 36 V 32 Q. I bought the guided self study plus and watched all the lessons and classes, did 6 practice tests, and all the math books. For the first exam I studied the OG, Princeton Review, and Kaplan books available at Barnes and Noble. There is no comparison. I'm thirty, and haven't taken a fundamental math class since 1995. It took some work to knock the rust off. If you have the money, the program is the best I've seen. I heard about it on this site. Thanks."
I have taken both courses. I did the Kaplan course/private tutoring before my first attempt at the GMAT. I got a 530.
I then took the Manhattan course + online tutoring with Manhattan, and got a 730 on the GMAT.
In my opinion, there really isn't any comparison between the two. Unfortunately, Kaplan and Princeton Review don't have the same standards for tutors as Manhattan. Manhattan doesn't hire anyone who hasn't scored in the 99% or above on the GMAT (760 or above). Kaplan and PR frequently hire people who have 710 or above, and may have taken the test 6 years ago, or perhaps even longer than that.
That isn't to say you won't learn anything with Kaplan or Princeton Review. However, I found that their strategies rely heavily on process of elimination and plugging in numbers. While these strategies will often get you to the right answer given enough time, the problem is that the GMAT is a timed exam with some very difficult questions. Therefore, unless you are extremely gifted in quant already (and thus probably going to score high regardless on the GMAT), these plug and chug strategies don't work particularly well.
I found that Manhattan offered a much more analytical approach to the GMAt, where you learn the fundamentals and then can apply them towards solving the problems. While this approach is certainly harder to learn than the PR or Kaplan strategies, it will pay off in spades when you go to take the test. The GMAT is, at the end of the day, a test of logic wrapped in math problems (or verbal problems, re: critical reasoning). If you can understand how to break the problems down into logic problems, these problems become much easier to solve.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents, from someone who has done both programs...."

I am currently enrolled in a Manhattan GMAT course (NYC), and I'm very pleased with it. The office is great, they treat their students very well, the technology is top-notch (new laptops with WiFi connections), and the teachers are _excellent_.
The workload is HEAVY, but of course you shouldn't spend all of that money to go and slack off. The homework is a very important part of the course, and they expect you to do it, no excuses.
I don't know if it is a fluke, but after two lessons my pratice exam scores went up 40 points. We'll see...
Today is my last MGMAT class. Good course, and instructor Josh Braslow was excellent. He has 8 years of GMAT teaching experience and very well versed in all GMAT subject matter. He is also very good at keeping everyone in the class engaged. There are 9 class sessions, 9 online lab classes. One thing I liked was the ability to watch recorded sessions of any classes you miss. You also get a weekly 30 min session of free phone tutoring. The recordings are from the online class, and the material is pretty much the same. If anyone is considering the online class, I would also recommend it. I live an hour from the MGMAT center, and if I were to do it again, I would consider taking the online one.
highly recommend Manhattan GMAT on-line course. It is live and tought by the teachers who scored in the 99th percentile. In addition, MGMAT puts all of the instructors through a 100-hour training program, so they definitely come prepared for the course. I took the on-line course with MGMAT in winter, and I must say that I was very impressed with the quiality of the material offered and the instructors (we had 2). The good thing about the on-line course is that you can take in while at home in your bed :) and you can ask questions live (they provide the headphones with microphone). The class is highly interactive, so you will not be bored at all.
I took the Manhattan live online course.
1. You must have already heard this - Some of the Manhattan study guides are exceptional - Sentence Correction, Number properties, Word translations Equations, Inequalities & VICs. Even if you don't take the course, you may need these guides (if you weak in certain areas such as Sentence Correction).
2. The main purpose of any online course or classroom coaching in general is to make any person preparing for the GMAT systematic. There is some homework given, you know what you need to do each week. Manhattan mainly focuses on completing the official guide. Study Guides separate question types of OG according to each topic, which makes it easy to understand our weakness, clear, our basics etc.
3. There are other things given along with the course: a) Math Challenge set, b) Official Guide general, OG Verbal, OG math, c) Labs d) Practice exams - Manhattan GMAT - 6 [poster writes that we have 3 Cambridge exams, but this has since changed to 6 of our own exclusive exams]
4. Instructors are good, polite and patient.
