How to Study with this Prep Package
- Overview
The Verbal Manhattan GMAT Strategy Guides provide in-depth instruction in the 3 principal verbal content areas tested on the exam: Critical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Sentence Correction. Use each Guide to master the concepts essential to each of these content areas.
- Read
Each Strategy Guide breaks down a content area into distinct topics corresponding to chapters. Read through each chapter and strengthen your skills in each topic by completing the approximately 15 ‘In Action’ problems found at the end of each chapter.
- Test Your Knowledge
You should also practice performing Official Guide Problems. This package includes the Official Guide for Verbal GMAT Review, but ideally, you should have already purchased The Official Guide for GMAT Review, 12th Edition. After mastering all of the topics and ‘In Action’ problems, you will want to test your knowledge on problems that have appeared on past official exams. The back of each Strategy Guide contains a categorized list of problems featured in the Official Guides. These problem lists, organized by subtopic and difficulty level, can help you further refine and practice the skills learned in each content area. Be sure to time yourself on these questions; use a stopwatch and limit yourself to roughly 2 minutes per question (1.5 minutes per question for Sentence Correction) in order to get used to the timing demands of the real GMAT.
- Review
Review your work, not just the answer, for every problem. Even the problems you answer correctly have something to teach you. It is important to familiarize yourself with common traps, alternate solution strategies, and ways to solve the problem faster. Track your work in an organized fashion so you can go back to challenging questions and try solving them again a week or so later to "seal in" the learning, and then one more time a few weeks later to make sure you understand them completely.
