Julia Pontecorvo grew up in the tri-state area and somehow managed to avoid talking like a character on the Sopranos. Having spent her formative years in New York and New Jersey, she is fiercely loyal to both states and has little tolerance for New Jersey jokes (fact: New Jersey is NOT the armpit of America).

Embracing her love of history, tradition and a solid party, Julia spent four years sipping sweet tea, wearing pearls and saying ya’ll at the University of Virginia. As a first year, she made it her goal to get involved in as many student groups as possible, much to her health’s—and GPA’s—chagrin. In her second year she decided to scale back her ambitions and focus on the activities that meant the most to her: film and student involvement. Between working at the University’s Digital Media Lab, taking film theory and history classes, and producing ROSKOSMOS, the largest student film production at the University (think Apollo 13. During the Cold War. In Russian.), Julia grew to be known by both her friends and random students as "that crazy film chick", a title she wore with pride.

With the little free time she had left, Julia loved working for the University’s Student Activities Center as a Leadership Consultant. In this role, she helped club leaders attract new members and helped new students find organizations that met their interests.

After spending a year working as a paralegal in DC(ugh!), Julia moved back to her homeland to try to figure out a way to fuse her dual passions of film and helping others. She started working on local productions and interning for distribution companies but knew she was looking for something more. Fortunately, she heard about ManhattanGMAT from a friend and decided that helping others pursue their B-School dreams would be a perfect complement!

Julia can be found on the weekends in heated debates about everything from movies, to politics, to daylight savings time. She loves to ski, hike, read and play scrabble and wii. She is most proud of winning an air guitar contest to The Darkness song, "I Believe in a Thing Called Love."
