Sam Fleming
Student Services Associate
Sam Fleming was born and raised in a coastal New England town by the name of Marblehead, Massachusetts. Originally planning on attending NYU’s College of Arts and Science, Sam ended up instead at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY; the idea of moving to the big city from a small suburb was somewhat daunting to his 17-year-old self. However, after spending 4 years at Vassar, Sam finally felt ready to join the ranks of city-dwellers, moving into a funky Bushwick apartment with 3 fellow VC grads about a week after leaving Poughkeepsie.
At Vassar, Sam had a concentration in Hispanic Studies with a correlate in Linguistic Anthropology. His interest in and knack for foreign languages stemmed from studying Latin from 6th grade through his senior year in high school. He picked up Spanish in 9th grade and began studying German in college, and plans (or at least hopes) to start tackling French and Italian soon. He’d love a job involving travel and languages/linguistics some day, but for the time being is content being multilingual for the fun of it. His main pursuit in New York has been a career in acting, which he studied and practiced mainly extracurricularly during his college years. Sam is happy that working part-time at Manhattan GMAT has helped him become a bit less of a stereotype; his first job here was in food service, but he’s much happier now that he’s surrounded by such intelligent and interesting people on a daily basis.
