Positives & Negatives
Positive
Any number to the right of zero on a number line; can be integer or non-integer.
Negative
Any number to the left of zero on a number line; can be integer or non-integer.
Note:

The number zero is neither positive nor negative.

Absolute Value
The distance from zero on the number line. A positive number is already in the same form as that number’s absolute value. Remove the negative sign from a negative number in order to get that number’s absolute value.
Double Value
This occurs when a subtraction sign is in front of a negative number. The two negatives turn into one positive sign. 18 – (4 – 9) = 18 – (-5) = 18 + 5 = 23.
