Carrie Shuchart: GMAT Tutor in New York
Carrie Shuchart
New York, New York
Originally from Kansas, Carrie fled the Midwest ten years ago and has long since lost count of how many people have asked her where Toto is. She spent four years at Harvard, where she earned an ever-practical degree in Social Studies (and that was only after her parents promised to disown her if she was a Philosophy major). Freed from academia, Carrie moved to Washington, DC, where she consulted and wrote for a major magazine for a year. After deciding that aging, affluent, conservative men were not exactly her prime audience, she opted for a career in freelance television production. But soon, the lure of business school was too much, so Carrie packed her bags for New York and a stint at Columbia Business School. At Columbia, Carrie frequently enjoyed her membership in the Wine Society, was the director of the school's comedy show, Follies, and managed to get through Corporate Finance without using Excel. Well, almost...

Armed with her MBA and no job prospects, Carrie decided to start her own clothing company. When she realized that such a venture wasn't going to be paying her the big bucks immediately, she found a place that would -- and thus, she is thrilled to be teaching with Manhattan GMAT. Carrie has previously taught drama and speech writing, which might not seem to have a lot to do with standardized tests, but trust her -- it's all about The Method.

In her spare time (what spare time?), Carrie enjoys reading far too many political blogs, watching far too much bad TV, and being far too disappointed by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Feedback From Carrie's Recent Students

“She is able to make the material and the test manageable. She gives concrete suggestions and keeps a positive attitude through all classes. She is also willing to spend extra time after class to answer individual questions.”

“Carrie's ability to engage her students is amazing. She can make the dense material fun, she's funny, and she knows the material very well.”
