Joey Ndu
Houston, Texas |
Joey is a natural engineer. Even as a kid, he tinkered with everything. He took apart G.I. Joes, R/C cars, and the family television – you know, typical stuff, not nerdy at all. At 16, he began his bioengineering degree at Rice University. During that time, he worked for The Cain Project – a foundation devoted to instructing engineers in presentation techniques, writing skills, and overall communication. That was where Joey learned that he had a passion for working with people directly.
So he made some changes. He didn’t abandon engineering, but he did take some time off. He went to Nigeria to help set up an aluminum mining factory, founded the Houston branch of a commercial window shade company, and started his own tutoring business. He then decided he wanted to go back to school and get a MBA/JD, so he took the GMAT and LSAT. That’s how he found Manhattan GMAT.
In his spare time he bikes, hikes, plays football, trains his dog Ender, and plays video games. He is also an avid drummer and loves attending live performances of jazz, marching, classical, world, and rock drumming. Lately, he’s developed an appetite for German board games. He even brought one to his interview for Manhattan GMAT – that's maybe just a little nerdy.
Joey’s biggest claim to fame - one he loves to talk about - is the time he was playing Cranium with friends and answered the question, "What is the sum of all the numbers from 1 to 100?" Yeah, he told that story at his interview, too. He will teach anyone who will listen how to solve this question. His students think it’s interesting. He thinks it’s fun. We can all agree it’s VERY nerdy.
Feedback From Joey’s Recent Students
“Joey has a nice easy going approach and could very easily describe concepts by even letting us know things he had trouble with and how he tackled these problems. ”
“He obviously understands the material and does a great job of presenting it so others can understand as well.”
