Greg Neubecker
Dallas, Texas |
After high school, Greg earned a Navy ROTC scholarship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study electrical engineering (party major at a party school). He spent the next six years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard Pacific-based destroyers for the first four years, inspecting vessels in the Persian Gulf for illegal shipments, organizing humanitarian relief missions in East Timor, and boisterously singing the Village People’s “In the Navy” at karaoke bars from Hong Kong to Thailand to Australia. Happy to be back on dry land, Greg enjoyed the change in scenery while busting drug smugglers in Central and South America during his final two years in the military.
Greg then retreated to the relative safety of business school, graduating with honors from the Wharton School with an MBA in finance and operations management. Greg knows a thing or two about B-school admissions as he was a member of the Admissions Committee while at Wharton and still serves as an alumni interviewer. He spent the next three years helping companies improve their performance as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company (too bad the vodka maker and plasma TV manufacturer didn’t give bonuses in product). He now works at HBK Capital Management, a Dallas-based hedge fund (Greg can score you a good deal on subprime mortgages).
Greg scored a 770 on his GMATs - once on the CAT and once on the paper version (yes, he’s old). When he’s not hanging out with his wife and kids at the park, Greg likes to “relax” with distance running – he has 3 marathons planned for the upcoming year!
