Bernadette Buck
After obtaining a degree in Mathematics from Wesleyan University, the logical next career choice for Bernadette was whatever was available in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that would enable some serious ski living. Fortunately, it turns out every resort town in the intermountain West has at least one upstart software company in it, and thus a long and varied career as a computer geek was born. Eventually the lure of Silicon Valley during the first Internet boom was too strong to ignore; she spent several years there working on various flavors of financial and enterprise resource planning systems. Her specialty became keeping programmers and users happy -- generally by keeping them away from each other.
When the capital markets decided that perhaps there had been a bit of excess valuation placed on this newfangled Internet thing, Bernadette headed back to her native Boston and began a new focus on the environment, in particular clean energy and climate change. She now provides technical support and training at the demand response provider EnerNOC. Demand reponse programs allow companies to get paid for reducing their energy usage during periods of peak demand while at the same time providing clean, reliable capacity to utilities and grid operators.
