Noah Teitelbaum
New York, New York |
Noah’s undergraduate education at New College in Florida ended with a detailed ethnography of a local New Age millenarian group that was actively waiting for aliens to land, activate our apparently dormant pineal glands and bring us finally into the golden age. The group was sort of a mix between Heaven’s Gate and Cocoon. In case you are wondering, the aliens did not land (yet). Undeterred, Noah flew off to Croatia, where he spent three years working for the UN, focusing on human rights and refugee protection. It turns out that confronting long-standing ethnic tension and its bureaucratic expressions is NOT easy.
From the United Nations, the only logical career step was to become a fifth grade teacher in Central Harlem, where Noah learned that teaching is indeed NOT easy. His masters in education from Bank Street hardly ameliorated this fact. The lesson was soon reinforced in schools in Newark and the Lower East Side. Regardless, seven years later, he is still in the classroom. His focus is on teaching math, and not only does he teach himself but Noah trains other math teachers in the tri-state area, and has authored several handbooks on teaching math through chants and songs, daily math rituals, and classroom dialogue. He is presently pursuing a second degree in “Math Leadership” which will allow him to learn that being a school principal is also NOT easy.
Amidst all of these lessons, Noah took the GMAT, scoring a 780. Noah’s goal at Manhattan GMAT is to make such scores somewhat easier through engaging classes and attention to detail. While not teaching, Noah probably can be found "chilling" with his wife, doing dishes, hiking, or D, all of the above.
