Manhattan GMAT Instructor, Joseph Martin
Joseph Martin
Washington, D.C.

Joe has spent his life following his heart, but his strongest and most unwavering passion has always been teaching. Joe's first formal teaching experience was as a teenager in Michigan, where he worked as a mentor for young students in Detroit.

With both sadness and hope in his heart, Joe left Michigan for Colgate University, braving a future that would certainly be rife with toothpaste jokes. As an astrophyiscs major, he spent long nights in the lab and even longer nights in the observatory. However, he still found time to teach, spending all four years at Colgate leading help sessions and tutoring students in multiple physics and astronomy classes where he was noted for his personable nature and ability to simplify difficult concepts.

After graduating with honors, Joe continued to pursue his passions - he coached rugby professionally and played in the US and abroad, researched sleeping sickness in Kenya as part of a geography M. Sc., and went on countless bicycle trips - but found that his desire to teach was omnipresent.

Upon moving to DC, Joe decided to spend his time doing what he loved most by making a career out of teaching. He started a tutoring company focused on Math and Science. In the meantime, Joe tackled the GMAT and scored a 760. It may have been living through one too many cold winters in his youth, or it could have been tackling one too many oversized rugby opponents, but he decided it was a pretty fun test and that it would be a lot of fun to teach. He promptly found Manhattan GMAT and the rest is history.

In his free time, Joe can still be found shortening his life on the rugby pitch, regaling friends with stories about constellations, or shaking his head on his bicycle after a guy on the street yells "Go Lance!"
