Steve Young
After years of commuting every few months between Boston and San Francisco, Steve settled in Silicon Valley in 1977. Honing his chops at Hewlett-Packard and Apple, he founded, built, and sold his first software company in the 1980s.
Fresh out of new entrepreneurial ideas, he interviewed at several companies in a bid to return to the work force. During one interview at a software firm he explained that he had two undergraduate degrees: one in Political Science and one in Computer Science. The interviewer concluded that this combination uniquely qualified him to work at his company and promptly hired him. The manager was absolutely correct. Steve found his Political Science degree even more valuable than his engineering degree in navigating the shoals of the corporate world.
Chafing under the reins of corporate management, Steve ventured out on his own once again in the 1990s by founding, building, and selling another software/firmware company. Comfortably retired from the business world since 2000, he wanted to add some excitement back into his life and came to work at Manhattan GMAT after scoring 770 on his first attempt at the GMAT.
After teaching five years in the San Francisco area, Steve relocated to Boston for its temperate summers and pleasant winters. Reminiscent of Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, he now says "I was misinformed".
In his spare time, Steve is an avid soccer goalie, having won several national championships for his age group. He has also coached many kids' teams, and defies any of his GMAT students to beat the excuse of the 11 year old girl who said she missed an open goal from point blank range because "the ball was too round."
Feedback From Steve’s Recent Students
“Steve has gone out at his way to make sure that all of the materials were covered. On several occasions he extended class time to finish covering the course material. He also makes sure that everyone in class has absorbed the materials.”
“Apart from being amazing to teach a class w/ varying skill levels and ensuring everyone is on the same page, Steve is very approachable. He really made class fun and was very open to taking questions after class. He has a genuine interest to see us do well and to ensure that we grasp the concepts presented in class.”
