Andrew Yang: GMAT Tutor in New York
Andrew Yang
New York, New York
Andrew is a fugitive from the law, or at least the practice thereof. After graduating from Columbia Law School and working as a corporate lawyer, Andrew made his break for the border. His job description at Davis Polk & Wardwell read "Associate - Banking, Mergers and Acquisitions", which apparently translated to "Guy Who Stares Unblinkingly at Documents and Argues about Events That Will Never Come to Pass."

While at Columbia, Andrew was an editor of the Law Review and a Teaching Fellow, and won a couple of things for being good at reading professors' minds. Unlike many former lawyers though, Andrew has no fear of numbers, as evidenced by his 780 official GMAT score and Economics degree from Brown. He also cross-registered at the Columbia Business School while living in Morningside Heights, and discovered that business students like to talk as much as law students, with an even stronger taste for drink.

Since then, Andrew has adventured on the start-up side of the New York business world working as "Guy Who Gets Things Done (Really!)" for a number of young technology companies, including a wireless software firm and a medical software company. He also co-founded a firm to raise money for celebrity-affiliated non-profits, which resulted in exiting an NBA locker room after the game with the players, much to the puzzlement of autograph-seeking fans. The moment of bewildered silence was its own reward.

Andrew has taught at Manhattan GMAT for 4 years. In his spare time, Andrew reads political histories, plays basketball, and pretends to be Ivan Drago from Rocky IV, exercising exclusively indoors with sensors measuring force per square inch while his triumphant adversary trains outdoors to develop natural strength. He regularly writes long e-mails to his parents in Taiwan and short text messages to his brother, who lives blocks away on the Upper West Side.

Feedback From Adnrew’s Recent Students

“Andrew is approachable and encouraging; I liked that he was sensitive to stragglers. I got the sense after working with him that it was possible to ace the GMAT. He was also willing to provide additional help after class.”

“Andrew provided engaging instruction, he gives good examples, involves all the members of the class, had a great ability to explain difficult questions relatively easily.”
