Jonathan Winawer: GMAT Tutor in San Francisco
Jonathan Winawer
San Francisco, California
Jonathan started out his higher education with purely practical aims: he studied Classics at Columbia, learning to read two ancient languages. He supplemented his income by teaching preparatory classes for the SAT and other standardized exams. He subsequently moved to France, where he worked at a GMAT center, co-writing a course on GMAT preparation, and learning a language with which he could actually speak to other people.

The bearer of a perfect 800 score on the GMAT, Jonathan then returned to the United States and began a career in science, studying the neurobiology of eye growth at the City College of New York. He has since narrowed his interests to an understanding of perception and cognition, an interest he pursued for his PhD at MIT, and now as a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford. Living in California on burritos and Napa wines, Jonathan has managed to pull off a second perfect 800 on the GMAT. In the meantime, he has forgotten how to read Latin and Greek.

Feedback From Jonathan's Recent Students

“The strongest attribute of Jon is his ability to get the class involved. At first, everyone was scared to get on the microphone and explain their answers. After a few classes though more people were getting involved and that seemed to help the learning process. He brought great enthusiasm to the class and had no problem staying after class to answer any additional questions.”

“Jon is very intelligent. He is not afraid to point out his mistakes, which makes him very approachable during the class discussions. Jon is articulate and to the point; he doesn't waste any time on material that is well understood by the group already. Hence, Jon is able to adjust the pace and the difficulty of the questions based on the overall level of the students in class.”
