Jonathan Schneider
Durham, North Carolina |
At Amherst College, Jonathan completed a creative writing thesis in Spanish, which he illustrated with original woodblock prints. He then moved to New Orleans, where he intended to wait tables and finish his first novel. After spilling water glasses on one too many customers, he was unemployed for two months before finding a job in sales at a high-profile French Quarter art gallery, where he learned to keep a straight face while asking for $10,000. Jonathan quickly became the company's lead salesperson, after which he developed its gallery-to-gallery sales.
After Hurricane Katrina, Jonathan moved to North Carolina, where he established his own art studio and began to work full-time as an artist. He now sells paintings, many of which are commissioned by a network of clients that has grown by word-of mouth.
Jonathan's creativity occasionally spills off the canvas and into other areas. He has patent-pending status on four separate inventions, ranging from an Internet password system to a pay-by-the-hour bed (for use in airports). For a brief period in 2007, he launched an online auction system that featured a webcam broadcast from his studio.
Thinking that business school might be a good way to focus his entrepreneurship, Jonathan took the GMAT in 2007, scoring a 780. He has since decided to postpone business school in order to focus on his career as an artist.
