word count limits

How closely does one need to adhere to word count limits for essays? I have heard that 10% over the limit is fine at most schools. Is that true for all top schools HBS, Wharton, Stanford, Kellogg, Sloan?

Yes, 10% over the stated limit is the convention for all schools.
