GMAT prep problem. Test-1.

Which of the following inequalities has a solution set that, when graphed on the number line, is a single line segment of a finite length?

A. x^4 is greater than equal to 1.
B. x^3 <=27 (less than equal to)
C. x^4 >=16
D. 2<=/x/<=5
E. 2<=3x+4<=6

I would appreciate if someone explains me why "E" is the correct answer. I am unable to understand the concept behind this question.

Thanks in advance.
Sanjay

I figured it out myself. Anyway I have put the link for the explanation.

The link is for a wrong problem.

Can MGAMT teachers please help?

It helps to draw the inequalities on the number line and home in on the write choice.

A) x^4 >= 1 OR 1 <= X <= -1 --<-- -1 --0-- 1 -->-- (line not of finite length)

Doesn't fit the bill.

B) X^3 <= 27 OR X <= 3 ----0---<-- 3 ----- (line not of finite length)

again not our requirement

C) X^4 >= 16 OR 2<=X<=-2 ----<-- -2 --0 -- 2 -->-- (line not of finite length)

Ruled out !

D) 2<=|x|<= 5

This inequality will give you two lines of finite length on the number line one between 2 and 5 and the second one between -2 and -5 . THIS DOES NOT HELP US EITHER as the qts Explicitly says that

'Which of the following inequalities has a solution set that, when graphed on the number line, is a single line segment of a finite length?'

WRONG CHOICE AGAIN

E) 2<= 3X+4 <= 6

after simplyfying we get (-2/3) <= X <= (2/3) ------- (-2/3)->--0--<-- (2/3) ---

BINGO we get SINGLE LINE segment of finite length !!!!!!!

please search the forum, people. this problem in particular has already been posted several times.

here are just two of them:
