What is the ratio of y to x?
(1) y = 3x
(2) x = 11
This is a DS question. The answer assumes that x is not equal to 0 in option (1). Is that fine?

Yes, x cannot be zero as y/x=3. If x were zero, y/x would have been undefined.

ah, no, the first poster is correct.
"y = 3x" is not equivalent to "y/x = 3", because the latter requires that x be nonzero, while x = 0 and y = 0 is a perfectly acceptable solution to the former.
so, yes, we need to add the stipulation that x be nonzero.
thanks. we will edit the problem.
