Thank you for your inquiry.
I don’t think that there is one profile for the Indian IT applicant or Indian engineering applicant. However, generally, candidates are concerned that they are part of an over-represented group when they are Indian-born, have a degree in engineering and work on the technical side of an IT firm, as opposed to the marketing or finance functions, for example. While you might not meet the strictest interpretation of this demographic, you still should be cognizant of the fact that there will be many others of similar background competing for the same places, so you will have to do your utmost to differentiate yourself from this pack. Thank you for your insight Jeremy.
Your response makes me ask another question: How much chance do I have for the class of 2011 for Harvard, Kellogg, Wharton and Chicago, MIT, INSEAD, IESE and LBS? I am 30, with 680 GMAT, 7 years experience (5+ as a Business Intelligence Architect/Business Analyst/Project Manager in top firms), pretty good leadership experience outside of work (started computer education in a small school in India about 3 years back on my own; got water treatment facilities setup in a remote village in India last year) in addition to continuous other society activities like organising Breast Walk, teaching computer literacy to kids in US among others, school president in high school, Computer Science degree from India with 70% Honors. thanks |

Thank you for your latest post.
You seem to defy the mold of the “typical” candidate, because of your extensive leadership outside of your work. Still, your age, comparatively low GMAT and over-representation will be a hurdle for you. I think that you will be reaching at the schools that you have listed – with the exception of IESE, where you should be quite competitive. I would encourage you to take advantage of our free consultation (www.mbamission.com/consult.php). A less static description of your candidacy may yield a more informed and thus different opinion.
