4th manhattan sc page 162 idiom 'probably'


Right

This situation IS PROBABLY as bad as it can get.

Wrong

This situation IS MAYBE as bad as it can get.


Both 'probably' and 'maybe' are adverb. Why 'probably' is right, but 'maybe' is wrong?

For idioms, I don't think there are rules! On contrary, idioms rule :)

BTW, "MAYBE" is informal for formal written English so it is avoided.
