David Blaine, the magician,____________ under water for eight minutes if he can hold his breath for ten more seconds.

If it takes me five more minutes to reach the mall, then this ____________ the longest drive to the mall I have ever taken.

What are the correct verb tenses to be used to complete the above sentences?

For the first one I would say "can remain".

For the second I would alter the sentence a bit:
If it takes me five more minutes to reach the mall, then this will be the longest drive to the mall that I have ever taken.
