Hi Stacey -
Is there a penalty for running out of time on any of the AWA essays? On my actual GMAT, I was not able to press submit/confirm (I dont remember what it was called) for my 2nd essay and the exam software popped up a message saying that the time was over, proceeding ahead with the break prompt.
Although, satisfied with my essay, I was on the the verge of submission, I wonder whether it would be considered for evaluation, and if yes, whether the GMAC would bother about my running out of time on this essay and consider this aspect in the scoring for essay II.
thanks.

The only penalty would be if you didn't actually complete the essay - if you didn't write a conclusion, for example, they'd factor that in. But they get the full text of whatever was in when the time ran out, so if your essay was done, the person scoring it will never know that you didn't actually hit next and confirm! (Nor will the machine that scores the essays. Yes, one of the graders is a software program!)
