sum divided among spouse and three children

A sum of $200000 from a certain estate was divided among a spouse and three children. How much of the estate did the youngest child receive ?

1) The spouse received 1/2 of the sum from the estate, and the oldest received 1/4 of the remainder.

2) Each of the two younger received 12500 more than the oldest child and 62500 less than the spouse.

please provide explanation.

Anyways here is a quick reply. Hopefully you or the moderator can move the complete thread to GMAT Prep Maths, if you got this from GMAT Prep.

Lets S, c1, c2 and c3 denote individual share with C1 for the Oldest child **(Instructors pls see below a question on Eldest vs Oldest?)

So s+c1+c2+c3 = 200,000

St.1 S= 100,000$, c1= 25,000$
c2+c3= 75k$, So we dont know the breakup.

St.2
c2=c3
c1 = c2-12500
s= c2+62500
so if you put all together c2 = 37500. Sufficient
Ans is B.

Instructor, A small doubt... Is Oldest the correct Superlative form? or Eldest is better here?

I just want to thank Manhattan GMAT staff for their excellent effort in coming up with explanations that even a layman can comprehend. I'm yet to write my GMAT but I scored 1460 in GRE by just going over the quant and verbal problems from these folders.
Seriously, nothing like Manhattan GMAT instructors and Ron.
Ron, if your reading this could you please have a video of 3 overlapping sets in your Free Sessions.Sorry to be asking this over here.
