Should I retake? Medium Quantitative, High Verbal GMAT

Hello,

I just took the GMAT and received the unofficial GMAT score report.
Quant. Scaled 45, Percentile 71
Verbal Scaled 52, Percentile 95
Total 710, Percentile 92

This was my first attempt and I was quite nervous in the first part (quant.).

My backgroud is 1 year in a top tier strategy consulting firm, followed by 3 years in a private-equity and distress debt recovery fund.

I feel i can improve my Quantitative score, number crunching is definitely not a problem for me. Do you think it would be necessary for Stanford, Harvard, Columbia to improve this score?

Hi Manuel,

Thanks for writing in. A 710 is certainly a strong score but if you think you can get add 20+ points overall with the Quant section, "not a problem," then another attempt could put you in a different sphere of candidates. It all depends on how you perceive the rest of your application profile -- if you think your work experience and extracurriculars already make you a unique candidate (and keep in mind the high level of applicants at these schools), then a retake may not give you much of an incremental advantage.
