Hi,

I gave GMAT yesterday and managed to get 700.

Throughout my preparation times, I've been aiming in the range of 720 - 750 while of course keeping a mindset to achieve the maximum. Nevertheless, as I stand with my current score, I'm happy to have at least fetch a figure of '7' in the hundredth's place of my score. A big psychological boost!

Experts,
As I returned from the test center, I had one prolong thought about my score: IS IT GOOD TO GO?

I'm hoping to apply in R1 and following is the highlight of my profile:

> Work Ex of 3 years in IT
> +8 months in Teaching Assistant-ship
> GPA: 3.5 (75%)

Professional Achievements:
> LOMA FLMI Level 1 Certified
> Recipient of numerous Certificate-Of-Achievements from previous employer
> Famed as 'Creative Head' of the Team

Personal Achievements:
> Started a middle school 4 years back and now have scale it to Higher Secondary standards
> We provide free education to 25% of strength
> Plans underway to start a Kindergarten this year or may be by early next year
> Web-master for an architectural firm's professional website
> Freelance software solutions provider
> Have played national level T.T.
> Topped "Do-You-Have-It-In-You" contest conducted by India Air Force
> Hold 8 months of teaching assistant-ship time at a local institution

The above are the highlights only and while making up my profile, I'd be employing same points although in much more elaborate manner. Also, as soon as I finish my research for program course, I'll add up that too and shall converge my direction and focus on to my course of interest for MBA program. I'm currently looking forward to courses under one of the following branches:
> HR, People/Resource Management
> IT
> Operations
> Information Systems / Management Information Systems
> Marketing - Pre-Sales
> Entrepreneurship

Looking for Full Time MBA courses only.

Experts,
Please assist me to evaluate my chances of getting through top 30 - 40 colleges. Do I stand a chance for a financial aid and how far reach should be my prospects when applying to different universities.

Thank You.

Hi Vishal,

Thanks for writing in. The question of whether your score is " good enough" obviously depends on what schools you are targeting. Based on the information you shared overall I do think it should make you competitive in the top-30-40 range, though top-20 would probably be a bit tougher, as I'm not sure how to interpret your college academics (is it the same 2.5 as the U.S. system?) and your post-MBA goals aren't defined in your post, which is very important to your application. Unfortunately I can't really give much insight on financial aid -- each school has their own funds and policies, but a simple call to the Financial Aid offices of the schools you're targeting should give you some better insight.

Best of luck,

1. Indiana University Bloomington
2. University of Rochester - SIMON
3. University of IOWA
4. Texas A&M - MAYS
5. Nanyang, Singapore

6. ISB, India
7. Boston University
8. Georgia Tech

The first 5 have already been applied to via GMAT test. Rest I'm pondering upon.

Hi again,

Thanks for that additional information. A 700 should make your GMATs competitive at most of the schools you list. You would be on the cusp of competitive at Ross, ISB and INSEAD.

Good luck!
