Question on Fractions, Decimals & Percents, 4th Edition Book

On page 28, middle of the page it states that by adding the same number to both the numerator and denominator increases and decreases the fractions value towards number 1, if its proper and improper fraction respectively.

What if you add a negative number to the positive fractions.

If for example we have -3/2, and we add -4 to both the numerator and numerator, then what will happen?

(-3-4)/(2-4)=-7/-2=7/2=3,5 ( value increases)

if we add a number like -1000000000 then the value would be slightly higher than 1. Still its an increase but its smaller than when we added a smaller number...

Does the book mean addition of positive number?

Good catch! Yes, this only applies to the addition of positive numbers. Negative numbers would have strange impacts similar to the one you described.
