Good evening,

So far I have taken 3 of the manhattan CAT practice exams.

1. 630 - 36Q 40V
2. 700 - 44Q 41V
3. 740 - 47Q 45V

As you can see my verbal scores have been very strong from the beginning, and my Quant is steadily improving.

Initially, in this 3rd CAT, I was getting mostly 700-800 level questions in the verbal section, but the test ended with five 600-700 level questions in a row even though I only missed one of the last fifteen questions and my estimated percentile rank was 99% throughout much of the test - including the last 7 questions.

Is it possible that the question banks that the CAT's draw from are running out of high level questions after three tests?

I am also nervous that this could happen in the Quant section as well because even though my quant was only a meager 47, ALL of the questions I was given were 700-800 level except for four (including the first one). I wonder if I could run out of difficult quant questions in the next CAT or two.

Was the test ending with so many lower level questions a fluke or are the number of difficult questions limited like this?

Hi,

While our curriculum team is working on adding more 700-800 level questions to our question bank, we currently have a limited amount of these advanced questions. If you perform very well on your CAT exams, then you will end up answering all the 700-800 level questions and the system will give you lower-level questions.

If you haven't already, you can try checking out the Prep Tests on mba.com. These Prep Tests are official past GMAT exams and will give you the most accurate assessment of your score. Also, whenever you would like, we can reset your CAT exams so that you will see more 700-800 level questions on the next CAT you take. While some of them may be repeat questions, you'll get a better sense for your score.

If you would like to reset your CAT exams or you have any other questions, please let me know. You can also send us an email to studentservices@manhattangmat.com or give us a call at 212-721-7400 or 800-576-4628.

Best,
