hi

kindly evaluate my profile with respect to b-schools mentioned below and also refer my weaknesses and strengths.

my gmat score is 700 - quant-92 essay-77 english-74
gpa - 2.93 (civil engineering)

nationality - indian

work-ex -
General Manager - 6 years - in an autonomous govt. corporation (transport sector)- it includes
- supervising 600 employees everyday
- with 110 vehicle fleet
- expert in negotiations
- handled trade union strikes several times (five major trade unions including all india trade union congress, indian national trade union congress)
- taken policy decisions at state level including policy formulation
- major role in budgetary cuts/ increased revenue receipts
- studied chinese intelligent transport systems on a business tour to china



family background -
father - could not afford to study beyond 10th grade - successful in property business (achiever regardless of all hurdles)
brother - successful lawyer
mother - not employed

extra-curricular -
- wildlife enthusiast - participated in various wildlife census


schools applying for -
harvard
tuck
chicago booth
stanford
georgetown mcdonough
tepper
cornell

any good b-schools which i have missed keeping in view my profile?

also, whether essay consulting services really help?

Hi Satrajzzz,

Thanks for writing in. Your current work responsibilities sound incredibly comprehensive and impressive -- since you're really eyeing top schools, it will be very important to make sure that experience shines through. I'm sure there are great anecdotes to include in your essays about managing such a large group and overseeing something as volatile as labor disputes.

I do have concerns over both your GPA and your GMAT. A 700 is still below the median for the top-tier schools you list, and you'll likely be slotted against other Indian male engineering candidates with scores in the 730+ range. To fight this weakness -- you need to differentiate yourself through the stories I mention above, as well as strong, clear goals as to why you are seeking an MBA.

You may want to add another school or two in the top-30 range to diversify your chances.
