Hi Daniel,

I feel like a heel for asking for a profile evaluation in my very first post, but I promise I will make it up to the community soon(I am planning to write a lengthy debrief) :)

My GMAT scores are as follows -

Attempt 1 - 700 (Q48, V38) (June 11)
Attempt 2 - 740 (Q48 V42) (Aug 11)

I have completed my B.E. in Biotechnology and am currently working for the past 3.5 years in a leading American IT Consulting and Outsourcing Multinational in their Information Security and Business Continuity department (I am hoping not to be branded under IT as my team is a part of Business Operations and does not support any outsourcing/development kind of work).

I have average academics and EC participation (I was the captain of my school quiz team, and we won some prizes at the city and state levels). I have also participated in elocution competitions, debates and personality contests.

I have been promoted twice in the past 2.5 years and I am currently the youngest of the 6 resources at my level. I have some public speaking experience: I have been facilitating new joiner orientations(including sessions for senior managers) for the past 2 years (I am the youngest in my team to have this honor). I have also recruited a couple of freshers for the team and have facilitated their transition into their new role, I am hoping to bring this out in my essays and recos. I have won some awards and certificates at work which may be moderately useful.

I am hoping for a lateral shift to IT Consulting post my MBA. I am planning to apply only to the Indian School of Business in R1. My backup plan is to apply to Wharton, Sloan or Stern in R2.

Please let me know what my chances are in getting into the above colleges.

Kind regards,

MS

HI MS,

Thanks for sharing these details. It's great that you recognize the perils of the "IT bucket" and have thought about how to differentiate yourself from this group. Your work progression can help with this differentiation as well.

I would rate you competitive for ISB and Stern. Wharton will be a bit tougher -- you will really have to excel at showing why you're outside the IT classification, and MIT should be competitive for you as well.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
