Hi,

Can you please evaluate my profile?

Age: 28, Indian
Undergrad GPA: 3.5 (69% (Mechanical engg.) from a top tier engg. School in India, not IIT)
MS (US, Comp. Science): GPA- 3.6 (Worked 30 hrs per week, taking 4-5 courses each sem. because of financial constraints)
GMAT: 2nd attempt 690 (49q, 35v), 1st attempt: 610 last attempt (49q,25v)
Work experience: 66 months (at matriculation). 14 months in India with a top IT multi-national. I Then came to US for masters. Completed masters in 18 months. Working in US since Marc’08 as a Business Associate at a top Inv. Bank (Front office – IT.. my role is purely business oriented). I managed teams in international locations (multiple) to deliver results in non technology functions.
Industry: Good exposure to Investment banking and Information technology as a whole
Leadership: Solid leadership roles across international offices. I have had promotions both in India and US (among the top 1% in the grad class in US). I have participated in a number of extracurricular activities including volunteer work during college. I also taught school children during Masters.
Target Schools: Wharton/Chicago Booth/ Stern/Columbia/Tepper
I can get very good recommendation letters from my current employer.

Do you think I can be a competitive candidate to the schools mentioned above?

Thanks in advance.

Hi possible894,

Thanks for sharing your profile information. Although you can point to instances where you were doing non-IT work in your job, the "Male Indian IT" profile can be hard to shake, and thus I think there is still a risk you will pooled with others who fit under that profile.

While your GMAT is still in the 20-80 range for those schools, it is on the low side, especially for Wharton/Chicago/Columbia. Tepper is probably a bit more in range; I'd recommend selecting 1-2 from that top list, and adding another school of a similar nature to Tepper.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards

Hi Possible,

Schools where your scores should be competitive that offer Finance concentrations include Darden, Texas and Indiana University. Please note this is not meant to be an exhaustive list.

Best of luck!
