"prevent from dissipating by" or " being dissipated by"

sound can travel through water for enormous distances, prevented from dissipating its acoustic energy as a result of boundaries in the ocean created by water layers of different temperature and densities

B. prevented from having its acoustic energy dissipated by

C. its acoustic energy prevented from dissipating by

D. its acoustic energy prevented from being dissipated as a result of

E. preventing its acoustic energy from dissipating by

The question appears in GMAT verbal review second edition problem 108. The OA is C.

Is the active voice in C right? I'm just wondering whether the answer in choice C will be better if "dissipating" is replaced with "being dissipated". I'm not clear about the use of voice......

what is prevented from is not clear in the original sentence...A is out
avoid using being in the sentences

Could you underline option A in the question?
You could use U in the message body editing toolbar to underline portion of the text.

can some one tell me whether in D dissipated is wrong?

I think it is wrong, because energy itself dissipate rather than energy is dissipated.
If it is wrong, correct me, please thanks

Actually, I read this Q from a website, and the OA is E, if OA is E, I can tell why.
A should be 'prevent sth/sb from doing sth'， also' as a result of ' emphasis the result, not the method, 'by' will be suitable in this sentence

B change the means also because prevent from differ from prevent sth/sb from doing sth

C&D both answer show as appositive to be modifier but are ambiguous because they look like another sentences without conj.

then we left E
