Present participle + comma

I totally understand the logic explained on page no 90 (manhattan SC 4) regarding the 'Present participle + comma' verbal modifier.

Now refer to Problem set on page 93, ques no 15.

I don't understand why this original sentence is incorrect. There is no Present participle + comma construction here. Can't I simply intent to mention how the disease was treated without bothering about who treated it ?

Okay let's see what we can do here. You seem to be implying that you think the original sentence is incorrect. Quote the rule to me that you think the sentence violates, and then we'll talk..

I am saying that I can't see why the original sentence is incorrect !

The issue with this sentence is the modifier "using novel techniques". Who is using the novel techniques? We cannot have a noun modifier hanging in a sentence without a noun for that modifier to modify; this construct is called a dangling modifier, and it is not acceptable on the GMAT.

I totally agree with the dangling modifier concept.

But my question here is that the mentioned sentence doesn't have a COMMA+ING construct. The original sentence says -

The patient's disease was treated using novel technologies ..

Can't I write the above sentence if I just want to emphasize that how the disease was treated ?

Please take a moment to clarify my doubt....Thanks

sorry about the original confusion regarding your question. here's the deal: the word "using" brings up the question of who or what is "using"; this is independent of whether there is a comma..
