Steven,
Thank you for your inquiry. Many candidates have preconceived notions about programs, which can be challenging to dispel. For example, many think that Kellogg is a marketing school, but their Class of 2007 sent more grads to consulting and banking (individually) than marketing. Similarly, many think that NYU is a finance school and while it certainly has a strength in finance, the school is not a finance school to the exclusion of all else. While it may seem clichéd, every school is looking for diversity in order to energize the class discussions. This extends beyond gender and national diversity and includes professional diversity. NYU definitely wants marketing perspectives in its classroom and wants its alumni to reach across all fields so that they can build and diversify their brand. So, in short, don’t worry about it at all. Just be sure to connect your professional goals in marketing with the school’s resources.
