it is from gmatprep
Although improved efficiency in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, thereby boosting consumption.
A. in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, thereby boosting.
B. In converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost.
C. Of converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, which boosts.
D. Of harvested trees being converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand, because it will increase supply and lower prices, thereby boosting.
E. When harvested trees are converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost
my question is How B is better than A ....in A "it" clearly refers to improved efficiency ...only problem i see in A is "by" is missing before lowering rates
it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and" by "lowering prices, please shed some light. thanks

it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and" by "lowering prices, please shed some light. thanks Even i gt the same question in GMATPrep. The reason why B is better is because in A, it looks as if the improved efficiency is boosting consumption. Also, A says that the improved efficiency will stimulate demand. But that may not be the case. B shows the contrast in much better way.B says increasing supply and lowering prices are boosting consumption. 'which' in B refers to increasing supply and lowering prices. The plural verb boost confirms that. It's more logical to say that when suppy increases and prices are low, consumption will be high. This is my explanation. It may be wrong. Let's wait for experts comments. Ron what do u say??

This reads to me like a real GMAT question, but googling it shows a pretty suspect provenance. I'm also suspicious because most who start threads about this question either are uncertain of the answer, or are a certain but wrong.
It's a good question, and if you can show me that it's really from GMAT Prep, I'll answer it. Otherwise I'll delete it.
I know that some GMAT Prep question have found their way to suspect sources like 1000SC, so I realize that this may be legit, but I'm going to be certain.
And no, no way is the answer B.

Dear Experts, I could not confirm the source of this passage. To avoid any problems with author’s right, I slightly change the wording, please address it. Thank you in advance,

apparently the original thread was lost in the midst of a busy season; it should have been deleted a long time ago.
let's do this again: this is the GMAT PREP SOFTWARE folder. all problems posted in this folder should be from the GMAT PREP SOFTWARE.
therefore: * if this problem is really from the software (unlikely), then post a screen shot, or upload a screen shot to an image hosting website such as postimage.org. * if this problem is not from the software, then it doesn't belong in this folder; please post a new thread, in the general verbal folder, in which you cite the original source of the problem.
--
by the way -- the OG12 is the only source that is banned on this forum for copyright reasons; the other banned sources are banned mostly because they are bad sources! simply changing two words of the problem doesn't change this fact.
--
we will delete this thread in 1 week from the posting of these instructions.
