An inventory equal to 90 days sales is as much as even the strongest businesses carry, and then
only as a way to anticipate higher prices or ensure against shortages.
(A) as much as even
(B) so much as even
(C) even so much as
(D) even as much that
(E) even so much that

I am not able to understand what is wrong in E?

A is the correct answer as the proper idiom is As much As..
or of the form AS....____....AS.

Regarding your Query, E is also a correct idiom. It follows..So X that Y.However in this case it distorts the meaning of the original sentence. Most Conspicuously, even should be placed next to "the strongest" in this case for it to be right..
