“It is unrealistic to expect individual nations to make, independently, the sacrifices necessary to conserve energy. International leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential if we expect to protect the world’s energy resources for future generations.”

I basically agree with the statement that international leadership and most importantly global cooperation are required to protect the world's energy resources.

To begin with, international leadership is needed because energy protection is essentially a global issue. In the global economy nowadays, exporting cheap products is often used by developing countries as a strategy to boost economic growth. However, some certain forms of energy such as coals are cheaper than others. Therefore, such countries will tend to use coals instead of other green energy resources to reduce costs of the products. However, such energy resources are not reusable. Therefore, an international organization, which is able to play a role of leadership, is needed to force importing countries to increase the taxes on the products produced with coals and similar energy resources.

Meanwhile, global cooperation is also necessary for us to successfully protect the world's energy resources because some devleoping countries need the technology assistance from developed countries. The using of some energy resources such as wind and sun calls for advanced technologies that some developing countries have not mastered. In this case, developed countries are responsible for providing such technologies at affordable prices.

Moreover, the use of some certain forms of energy calls for international trust and agreements. One striking example is concerned with the using of nuclear energy, which gives huge amount of clean energy but is also a source of conflicts. Wars on nuclear issues have already happened. Therefore, to enhance the using of nuclear energy, worldwide cooperation is need to guarantee the peaceful use of nuclear power.

In conclusion, international leadership and global cooperation are necessary to protect the energy resources of our planet.
