Hi,
I have a word translations book from mgmat, guide 4. In page 191, the medical researcher problem, the answer given is 1/7, the result of sum of two 1/14 probabilities, I was wondering if the 2nd probability calculated is an error, instead of 1/14 shouldn't it be 13/14*1/13 ?
thanks. karthik.

13/14*1/13 IS the same thing as 1/14. :) You've calculated the answer a different way than the book did, but the fact that the answers are the same shows you that there are two equally valid ways to get to this answer.
