Hi All,

In many places I read that "The fact" is in general wrong in GMAT....

Can someone please tell why ? Is there any grammatical/logical reason for the same?

Can someone please tell under what circumstances "The fact" is correct and when the same is wrong ?

Thanks
Mohit

One condition when "the fact" could be right is in the usage of "Despite the fact that"...

Thanks.

hmm. this seems a bit overly ambitious.

where have you read this? could you provide links to any sites that make this claim?

Ron,

OG says this. Please find the question #57-Option E, of the OG12 sentence correction question. OG claimed "The Fact is wordy".

Thanks.

I think that it's not necessarily wrong when a sentence uses "The fact." However, there is often a simpler way of expressing the information in the sentence. In such problems, you should see if there are additional grammatical issues with the sentence.

Geemate's example can help illustrate this:

Despite the fact that it was raining yesterday, Harry still went outside in shorts and a t-shirt to jog.

No problems with the sentence; but it can more concisely be written without "the fact":

Even though it was raining yesterday, Harry still went outside in shorts and a t-shirt to jog.

Hope that makes sense.
