The Sports Medicine Programs of the Olympic Training Center, a complex where final tryouts are held for athletes representing the United States in the Olympics, is geared toward enhancing athletes' performance and toward their preparation for international competition.
(A) is geared toward enhancing athletes' performance and toward their preparation
(B) is geared to enhance the performance of athletes and to prepare them
(C) are geared to enhance athletes' performance and their preparation
(D) are geared toward the enhancement of athletes' performance and toward preparing them

the above poster's summary is basically correct, although i'm not 100% sure that "geared to" is incorrect.

by the way:
i smell a non-official problem.
if this problem is really FROM THE GMATPREP SOFTWARE, then please post a screen shot as proof. i would be astonished if this were really an official problem.

Ron, I have another doubt in this. Is "toward" correct or is "towards" correct?

ganurag83 - Check this link. May clear your doubt. post7023.html? My question to Ron - what should really hint us in picking 'are'? Programs? It's very misguiding in this question. I went ahead and read like this - 'The SMP of the Olympic Training Center, a complex where final tryouts are held for athletes representing the United States in the Olympics, is blah blah blah'

ganurag83 wrote: Ron, I have another doubt in this. Is "toward" correct or is "towards" correct? hmm? "towards" doesn't appear anywhere in this problem. do you have a different version of it? -- clearly "toward" is ok, since it appears in the correct answer.

ashish.jere wrote: My question to Ron - what should really hint us in picking 'are'? Programs? It's very misguiding in this question. nope. if there is ONE thing in this question that is absolutely clear, it's the subject of that verb. "of the olympic training center" is ineligible, since it's a prepositional phrase (a type of modifier). "a complex where blah blah blah" is also ineligible, since it's a modifier. therefore, the subject is "sports medicine programs". 100% unambiguous. if you think there is an ambiguity here, then you should check out the material on "eliminating middlemen" in our sentence correction strategy guide and/or watch class 2 of our nine-session course (available online if you aren't located in a city where our live classes take place).
