Hi everyone,

I thought I'd suggest a class that one can take aside the MGMAT in order to improve quants. I'm kind of taking this class at a local community college called Discrete Mathematics. I am taking it because I need to show admin committees that my math grades during undergrad are not representative of my ability. While in this class, we've gone over number properties, number theory, intro to probability, combinatorics, sets (venn diagrams) and much more (A LOT of the material covered in the GMAT) The course a month long and is really interesting but I am now able to tackle some questions I was not able to do before. That along with the mgmat course, I've been able to really improve my quant score from a 32 to a 45. Just something to think about in case anyone was losing hope.

Happy studying :)

This is a really great point, grumppee. I was a high school math teacher for many years and over that time noticed the steady decline in the presence of discrete math topics in the typical core high school math curriculum. Taking a discrete course may not be a viable option for all, of course, and success on the GMAT is certainly possible without an in-depth study of discrete math, but grumppee's testimony is certainly compelling.

Do you guys know of a good discrete math course in New York City?

NYU? Baruch? Pace? BMCC?

Thanks,

I don't, unfortunately - does anyone else know of one? You might also just want to do a google search. The other thing to think about: do you want a grade and official transcript that you can show or do you just want to take the class for the knowledge? If you want a grade and transcript, you should make sure that any program you take offers those things.
