use of "- ing"

Hi,

Could you please suggest as to when does "-ing" comprise of a " run on sentence" and when is it correct in use other than as gerund.

We would love to help you out but without an example to look at, it's hard to see exactly what you mean. Is there a sentence in particular that motivated your question?
