I read the Sentence Correction Strategy guide (third edition) from cover to cover, and I think that an important rule about possessive nouns is missing.
This rule is that possessive nouns such as David's can only be the antecedents of possessive pronouns, such as his.
Here is an example from GMAT Prep: In addition of her work on the Miocene hominid fossil record, Mary Leakey's contributions to archeology include her discovery of the earliest direct evidence of hominid activity and her painstaking documentation of East African paintings.
Possessives are mentioned on page 82 and 102 of the Sentence Correction Strategy guide (third edition), but this rules is not explained anywhere. Has this rule been added in the fourth edition?

I checked page 63, but it deals with parallelism and lists with "And". I checked page 163 just in case, but it does not mention the rule either.
I am pretty sure this rule is not mentioned anywhere in the third edition.

page 63 talks about parallelism in the fourth edition. make sure you're looking in the correct edition; you seem to be mixing them up..

No, I really have the Third Edition. "Third Edition" in clearly mentioned on the cover.
Page 63 deals with "Parallelism strategy" and "Lists with And".
I checked again and the rule I am talking about is nowhere to be found in the third edition.

My apologies; i was looking at the 2007 edition. i've dug up my third edition, and the rule you are looking for is right there on page 82, one of the pages you mentioned already. It's there, midway down the page; look again..

Ok, now I see it. I did not notice it because there is no example provided for this rule. Thanks Tim!
