Could someone explain why D is better than C?
In D, it has no referent and hence D is a bad choice.
OG says in C, "to be an expatriate was fashionable " is written in the reverse order.
I feel its in the right order because in the reverse order, there will be a hanging "it" with no referent, just like in D!

OA should be C!!!!

Hi tathagat,

Unfortunately we cannot answer questions from the Official Guide due to copyright rules. I will have to delete the post above.
