In the example, it states that x is odd. If you use 1 for x, the quick answer is NO because p=0 and 0 is not divisible by 24.
I understand that this is trying to teach a strategy based on consecutive integer principles, so could some one provide another example or question that drills this strategy.

Zero is actually divisible by 24. Zero is divisible by any non-zero number. "divisible by" means that the result is an integer, and zero divided by any non-zero number = 0. So it fits the definition, and the problem is fine. :)
