Hi,

I appeared in GMAT yesterday. I scored lesser than all GMAT practice tests. I want to score more than 700.

Score : 640 , QA : 48 , VA : 30

As i am a non-native speaker , my primary weak area is speed in VA. I tried a lot to improve on this in past 2 months but have failed.
Because of my reading speed , i could not read 1 passage , guessed all of its questions , all in all lack of speed cost me guessing at least 8 questions. I had to guess them all and because of mental pressure i could not properly read other questions also .

I am good in CR and SC provided i solve them in enough time. In RC yeah, i do struggle.

I don't know how to develop such reading speed. People who have been reading/conversing in English from childhood naturally have a lot better speed than me. It seems i just can't do it. Please advise.

I can improve in QA , i know how to do that.

It is very difficult for non-native speakers. Reading speed is the toughest thing to improve - it can often take 6+ months.

It helps to read every day in English - and not just things for the GMAT. Here are some sources:

http://magazine.uchicago.edu/ - particularly articles in the "Investigations" tab
http://harvardmagazine.com/
http://sciam.com/

Also, *everyone* struggles with timing on this test, at least a little bit - even native speakers. Part of your task on this test is to recognize when the test has given you something that's too hard, so that you can just let it go fast.

If you can do better with the timing (letting things go sometimes), then that will actually help to take some of the pressure off of the reading speed issue!
