Hi,

I am a Corporate Lawyer from India and am in the process of applying for the 2012 Fall intake.

I have a GMAT score of 740 with a Quant Score of 48.

I am looking at Cornell-Johnson, CMU - Tepper and Virginia-Darden.

I did not have calculas or statistics or any sort of math based subject/course in my undergraduate degree.

Will this hurt my chances at Cornell, CMU or Virginia? I understand these schools have a pre-requisite of some math based subjects at the under-graduate level and their MBA programs do in fact have a quant focus.

How can I circumvent this problem? Are there other schools I should be looking at which would sort of appreciate the diversity brought in by an applicant with a non-traditional background?

Cheers!
Gopi

Hi Gopi,

Thanks for writing in. A 740 overall is an excellent score and will be well above the median at the schools you listed. Since you cleared the 80 percentile mark in Quant, the schools will likely be comfortable with your demonstrated analytical abilities. I can't speak for the direct undergraduate requirements of the schools you listed, but if you have reason to believe these schools in particular will look down on your transcript because those courses are missing, you can write a short optional essay that explains why you think you are capable of MBA-level coursework. You can also take a local or online course to learn the basics of these areas, and/or enroll in any math "boot camp" the schools offer.

Good luck!
