Hi All,
Second chapter of Manhattan says that:
Incorrect: Does Everyone have their book ?
Correct: Does Everyone have his or her book ?
Can someone please tell how the correct sentence is correct....isn't it breaking the S-V agreement ?
Everyone...have
Shouldn't we have Everyone....has

Mohit Everyone is singular. So it should be has.

Mohit The correct sentence is indeed correct. Everyone is singular that is right. When you say in a sentence "Everyone has an OG 12th edition." This sentence is correct. However, in a question, the verb is reverted. When turn the above sentence to a question form, it becomes "Does everyone have an OG 12th edition?" Help it helps.

Probably I am missing something here... But we use same has for both the below sentences...or I am wrong here ? He has purchased a house. Has he purchased a house ?

The sentence stated in the Strategy Guide is correct. When we have questions, often the subject and verb are in reverse order. It's helpful to change the question into a sentence to see how the subject-verb agreement works. "Does Everyone have his or her book?" should be re-stated in a sentence as: "Everyone does have his or her book." The word "have" here does not function as the main verb. It is in the infinitive, with the helping verb "does." For this reason, we should not conjugate "have." I hope that makes sense.

In page 21, we have the example 3:
If Chris and Jade met, they discussed mathematics.
According to SC guide, this correct. However, this doesnot fall in any of the If... then constructions explained in page Verb mood voice tense chapter.
Please explain how is the above sentence correct? If this is correct, then should we include this construction also in If... then constructions explained in page Verb mood voice tense chapter?

Not at all. In the verbs chapter all uses of "if" are in the hypothetical. The example on page 21 makes it clear that the sentence at issue is not hypothetical. Notice that the example immediately below the one you reference IS hypothetical, and that situation is fully covered in the verbs chapter..
