Is x > y?

1) xy > y^2
2) x(y^2) > y^3

1) xy>y^2
x=5, y=4, then 20>16 (true)-- x>y
x=-5, y=-4, then 20> 16 (true)--- x<y

So A and D are out

2) x(y^2)>y^3
x=5, y=4, then 80>64 (true)--- x>y
x=5, y=-4, then 80>-64 (true)--- x>y
x=-3,y=-4, then -48>-64(true)--- x>y

So B is the answer

A type of cake requires 150g of flour. Another requires 750g of flour. At most, 2.25kg of flour is available, how do you represent this in an inequality?

A dog owner wants to build a rectangular dog run usiing no more than 20m of fencing. She wants the run to have an area of at least 20 square meters. How do you represent this problem as an inequality?

Actually, geeknick, we’re not going to answer that question in this thread. You need to start a new thread for a new problem, and be sure to cite the source of the problem, AND make sure there is actually a math problem to solve (neither of the examples you cite are actual math problems, so we won’t know what to do with them unless we know what the question is asking)..
