Have you checked out our Sentence Correction strategy guide? There is a very complete list of idioms (correct, suspect, and incorrect) that summarizes idioms that have actually been found in released GMAT questions. Be careful with any idiom lists floating around the internet randomly. At best, they may cause you to study idioms the GMAT doesn't test, at worst, they may be incorrect.

I've visited a lot of websites that offer great flash cards for learning/studying idioms.
It would be nice if Manhattan GMAT also created a similar flash card set for the students to use. The free GMAT cards being offered right now are fantastic but it's a mix of different areas. If we could have a set of flash cards that reflect the idioms list in our SC Guide book, I think this would be extremely helpful.

Please suggest this to the GMAT company. Thanks.

Hi Jonathan,

One thing to keep in mind about idioms is not necessarily the specific structure of the idiom, but rather how it's used. For example, "result from" "results in" "is a result of" "as a result of" are all correct idioms depending on the context; they could be incorrect in other contexts.

Another point is that idioms are usually picked up by native speakers, so memorizing a bunch of idioms may not be the best and most helpful use of time. It's also impossible to create flashcards that are comprehensive of ALL idioms; undoubtedly some idioms that are not listed will show up on the test.

However, I think that perhaps some tool to help students with idioms may be helpful. I will pass this suggestion onto the curriculum development team.
