Hi,

What kind of construction is "Had still been" Had been strongly indiactes that the event occured and finished in the past, but still indicates it is still going on... Is " Had still been" wrong?

thnx

In this case "still" would mean present RELATIVE to some event in the past. It does not mean present as in right now. So it is past perfect as you say. And you would need some other past even to be the anchor for the "still".
